Upon Learning of Divorce, Connecticut Woman Allegely Poisoned Husband!
A Connecticut woman has been accused of trying to poison her husband after learning that he was going to divorce her. Coventry resident Jennifer Ratti was arrested on Saturday in relation to allegedly poisoning her husband of four years, Joshua, with antifreeze and ant and roach killer, according to a story in the Hartford Courant.
After Joshua called police on Friday saying that he wasn’t feeling good and that he believed his wife was poisoning him, police began investigating Jennifer Ratti, who later gave a full-sworn confession to police. Joshua Ratti was released from a hospital over the weekend and has asked for a protective order from his wife, who was in court yesterday.
Supervisory Assistant State’s attorney Cynthia M. Baer told a judge that Jennifer Ratti poisoned her husband in retaliation to his filing for divorce and urged that her $250,000 bail be kept high. Jennifer Ratti’s attorney Frank Russo asked the judge to reduce her bond to $100,000 so that she could get psychiatric treatment. The judge refused for the moment, telling Russo that he could come back to court with a similar request once he lined up a psychiatric treatment facility for his client.
After learning that her husband was seeking a divorce for someone else, Jennifer Ratti allegedly sought help from her physician, who prescribed Valium for her depression. According to police information and Baer’s comments, Ratti allegedly began to spike her husband’s beverages with antifreeze and on at least one occasion with Valium. Jennifer Ratti has also been accused of spiking his food with ant and roach killer. She is due back in court on April 13th, and we’ll keep you updated on the latest developments with this strange case.
