Critics Not as Fond of No-Fault Divorce Anymore

New York, one of the few states without no-fault divorce, is currently debating whether to pass legislation that would enact no-fault divorce.  Although most states have adopted the concept, critics are beginning to say it is not a good option that is dangerous for women and children.

Newsday.com reported that the National Organization for Women is opposing the no-fault divorce legislation because wives are usually less financially secure than husbands, making it harder for them to negotiate.  Since almost 40 years ago when California was the first state to allow couples to divorce without assessing blame, people have argued over the pros and cons of no-fault divorce, including women having a disadvantage and avoiding violence.
