Are more women paying for child support?

According to a survey released by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, there is an increase in the number of mothers who have been made to make child support payments.  In the past five year, 55 percent of the respondents in the survey said that courts are making more mothers pay to support their children, reported The Wall Street Journal. Divorce attorneys also cited that the size of payments amounts have increased in the past five years.  Fourteen percent cited the payments have decreased and 44 percent said they payments have stayed the same.

The AAML was found in 1962 to study, improve, evaluate and advance the practice of matrimonial law.

Is there any hope in getting child support orders modified downward at least until a woman can get through school? The court system does not seem to care that a mom/fulltime doctoral student is having financial collapse due to being ordered to pay support (ex hubby is working making 50,000 annually and I made 21,000 last year and still I pay HIM child support for our two children.)

    Hey Gina-
I’m the writer for Total Divorce, since this blog is not written by a divorce lawyer, it would be best to speak with a local divorce lawyer to find out if you can modify child support. We have a page about it where you can read more: http://www.totaldivorce.com/child-support/child-support-modification.aspx
