After seven and a half years of marriage, the pop star and film director are calling it quits, reported CNN.  A statement was issued to the press from Madonna and Guy Ritchie confirming that they are getting a divorce and would like the media to respect their privacy.

Rumors circulating in the press has created a strain on the relationship.  Earlier in the year, Madonna was romantically linked with New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez.  She denied these rumors but problems continued to persist.  The couple was last seen together publicly in September, when they celebrated Ritchie’s birthday at a London pub.
