First Study on Mail Order Bride Marriage and Divorce Released

In a press release from PRWeb, it was announced that the first wide-scale survey on cross-cultural marriage and divorce has been completed. The most significant finding was that 90 percent of the people who tried cross-cultural marriage said they would again if the marriage failed.

The study indicated most men and women in cross-cultural marriages are educated with at least a Bachelors Degree. The majority of the marriages have incomes of less than $100,000 a year. The researchers gave consideration to the fact that the results included answers from many countries that have different costs of living and income levels. The study also said that the divorce rate of cross-cultural marriages is 40.76 percent, whereas the U.S divorce rate is 48 percent.

This survey started in the summer of 2008. The final number of valid responses was more than 1,700. The report includes demographics, gender and length of courtship before marriage, gender and household income and gender and level of education. Other findings from the survey include length of divorced marriages, primary causes of divorce, age when married and age difference in cross-cultural marriages.

Does Geographic Location Affect Divorce Rate?

According to The Modesto Bee, those who live in the south of the United States are more likely to file divorce. In a recent study compiled by The Barna Group, a company that provides resources and research to churches, divorce rates are different, depending on geographic locations.

The group reported that the Midwest and South tied for first with 27 percent of married couples getting a divorce. The West came in second with 26 percent of couples getting divorced. The Northeast was the lowest at 19 percent. Massachusetts was the state with the lowest divorce rate. Other states with low divorce rates included Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York and Pennsylvania. The states with high divorce rates were Nevada, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Wyoming.

Missing Missouri Woman Wanted a Divorce

Renee Pernice has been missing since Jan. 2, and investigators believe that she is a victim of foul play. According to the News Tribune, Pernice was in the middle of a divorce from her husband, Shon Pernice. The court affidavit said that Shone has made inconsistent statements since the day Renee was last seen.

Renee, 35, is a nursing instructor with two sons and a stepdaughter. Her husband is an Independence firefighter. After obtaining a search warrant, authorities found that Shon had entered an Independence haz-mat station that held solvents and cleaning materials. Shon is not assigned to the station.

The court affidavit also said that Shon has told detectives that he last saw his wife on New Year’s Day and Jan. 2.

Second Marriages More Fragile than the First

After a first marriage has ended, people think they have it figured out. They now know what they want in their next partner and have learned from all the mistakes. However, research shows just the opposite. Psychology Today reported that the rate of divorce in subsequent marriage is 60 percent.

According to sociologists Frank Furstenberg and Andrew Cherlin, about one-fourth of second marriages end within the first five years. This rate of divorce is much higher than the rate among first marriages. Yet this risk of a second divorce is only that high in the first five years.  Once a remarried couple stays together for five years, the family’s chances of surviving are the same – possibly better – than a couple who have been married as long in a fist marriage.

Wiretapping your Spouse: Follow the Law, Experts Warn

After a man filed a lawsuit alleging his ex-wife and former father-in-law put a recording device in a beloved teddy bear of the couple’s daughter to spy on him, Divorce360 reported on wiretapping your spouse. Experts are saying people should be careful not to overstep the law when spying on their spouses.

“This is actually a great story about the extremes a psycho mom will go to, and how it only increases the rancor” in a divorce, said California family law attorney David Pisarra. He said the bigger issue, is “how people try to get dirt on the other side and how fruitless it usually is.”

Under most state and federal laws, it is illegal to wiretap your ex-spouse’s conversations unless both parties agree or there is a court order. Although private investigators say that it is common for spouse to consider spying on their former wife or husband.

Money Refunded for SC Divorce Forms

According to The Sun News, people will receive a refund if they bought divorce forms from A Divorce Fast. The South Carolina Attorney General’s office said that the Canadian service hosted forms that didn’t comply with state laws.

Some people paid $500 to download forms for divorce; however, the company was not licensed to practice law in South Carolina. According to the South Carolina Bar Association, courts turned down the forms, meaning people were out money and without a divorce.

Should Everything be Divided up in a Divorce?

According to Law.com, Dr. Richard Batista has demanded his estranged wife return the kidney he donated to her or pay $1.5 million. The surgeon and his wife have been in a four-year divorce battle. Batista told reporters that he does not regret donating the kidney, only that the marriage failed. During the divorce proceedings, Batista claims that he has not been about to see the couple’s three children for long periods of time.

Batista said that he did not want to have to publicly make his demand but that it was a last resort. The Long Island surgeon works at Nassau University Medical Center. He and his wife, Dawnell Batista, married in 1990 after meeting at the hospital. In 2001, the surgeon donated his kidney to his estranged wife. She filed for divorce in 2005.
