  • Should Everything be Divided up in a Divorce?

According to Law.com, Dr. Richard Batista has demanded his estranged wife return the kidney he donated to her or pay $1.5 million. The surgeon and his wife have been in a four-year divorce battle. Batista told reporters that he does not regret donating the kidney, only that the marriage failed. During the divorce proceedings, Batista claims that he has not been about to see the couple’s three children for long periods of time.

Batista said that he did not want to have to publicly make his demand but that it was a last resort. The Long Island surgeon works at Nassau University Medical Center. He and his wife, Dawnell Batista, married in 1990 after meeting at the hospital. In 2001, the surgeon donated his kidney to his estranged wife. She filed for divorce in 2005.
