  • Wiretapping your Spouse: Follow the Law, Experts Warn

After a man filed a lawsuit alleging his ex-wife and former father-in-law put a recording device in a beloved teddy bear of the couple’s daughter to spy on him, Divorce360 reported on wiretapping your spouse. Experts are saying people should be careful not to overstep the law when spying on their spouses.

“This is actually a great story about the extremes a psycho mom will go to, and how it only increases the rancor” in a divorce, said California family law attorney David Pisarra. He said the bigger issue, is “how people try to get dirt on the other side and how fruitless it usually is.”

Under most state and federal laws, it is illegal to wiretap your ex-spouse’s conversations unless both parties agree or there is a court order. Although private investigators say that it is common for spouse to consider spying on their former wife or husband.
