Alabama Child Support Guidelines Revised
In Alabama, the courts have issued a long overdue update to state child support guidelines. These guidelines had not been updated in 15 years. The new child support guidelines apply to all divorce and child support cases filed after January 1, 2009.

Wife Urges for Change in Child Support Law
In Kansas, Karey Sprowson, the wife of 19-year Army veteran Master Sqt. Christopher Sprowson, is urging legislators to change a law so men can use genetic testing to avoid paying child support for children they didn’t father.
On Jan. 21, Mrs. Sprowson told lawmakers the state plans to garnish her husband’s paycheck and keep the family’s tax refund to support a child that is not his biological son.

In this new divorce generation, grandparent rights have become a controversial issue. Grandparent-right supporters are pushing for court intervention, arguing that grandparents are an integral aspect to their grandchildren’s lives and they shouldn’t be denied visitation because the parents filed for divorce.

Couple who Fought for Gay Marriage to Divorce
Julie and Hillary Goodridge were among seven gay couples in Massachusetts that sued for the right to marry. The lawsuit led to the historic court ruling legalizing gay marriage in the state. Massachusetts was the first state to legalize same-sex marriage.
