Texas Bill Requires Couple with Children to take Class before Divorce
Republican Representative Warren Chisum introduced a new bill into the Texas House that would require married couples with children to take a 10 hour class before filing for divorce. Since 45 percent of marriages end in divorce, Chisum believes that the class may save a few marriages.
“I think we can save more than a few, but if we can save a few, it’s worth our effort,” he told WFAA.
The new bill might encourage couples to stay together not because of what the couples take away from the course, but because of of the price tag. The course could cost couples around $200 an hour, depending on the course provider.
