  • Terrell Owens Allegedly Receives Break in Child Support Payments

Terrell Owens may have received a sterling bit of news recently as he was allegedly able to convince a judge to substantially lower his child support obligations, which threatened to bankruptcy the former football star.

According to a report from celebrity watchdog TMZ.com, Owens was able to convince several different judges that the child support payments for his four children were exorbitantly expensive, particularly in light of his current status as an ex-footballer.

Sources also told TMZ that Owens may have secured visitation rights with some of his children, each of whom has a different mother. Owens is reportedly ecstatic about the lowered payments and increased child custody.

Originally, Owens was reportedly ordered to pay between $5,000 and $20,000 per child per month, sums which were lofty even when he was making millions of dollars per year to play football.

Now, however, Owens is out of business, as no team in the National Football League offered him a contract this season, suggesting that Owens’ career could soon be over.

In light of this career shift, Owens filed the requests to lower his child support payments, and the judges likely obliged because Owens is literally making no money right now.

The reduction of his child support allegations also comes on the heels of Owens’ court appearance after a warrant was issued for his arrest after he fell short on payments to one of his children. The court, apparently, took pity, knowing that Owens couldn’t afford his obligations.

According to TMZ, Owens owes $20,000 per month support to Monique Reynolds, with whom he has an 11-year-old son, but a judge allegedly lowered this monthly payment to $11,202—still expensive, but significantly lower than the original payment.

In addition, Owens originally owed $20,000 per month to Kimberly Floyd to support their 7-year-old daughter, but this was lowered to $15,000 in 2008, and will likely be lowered again.

Next, Owens reportedly pays $13,400 per month in child support to Samelia Miller, with whom he had a child in 2006.

Finally, Owens pays roughly $5,000 per month to Melanie Paige Smith for the support of their child, although, according to TMZ, this child support obligation was the only one for which Owens did not request a reduction.

Of course, while Owens may be able to lower his child support payments, he still has other financial obligations that are weighing him down. Sources indicate that he must pay more than $60,000 each month on payments for various properties, and that his home in Georgia is currently in foreclosure.
